As some of you know, I have had limited training and racing in the last 9-10 months as I have been moving. Looking for a job, looking for a house, all sorts of stuff. All very stressful and time consuming.

So we move to and what is happening just 3 days later in town?! Yes, a cyclocross race! Now, for the last 9 years, the closest race I have ever gone to is an hour drive and most are closer to 3 hours away so this was something I couldn't miss!

So I'm feeling a bit lonely as I've left my home and all my friends and I'm standing there waiting for my race while I watch Jeff finish up his 50+ category race. And I hear a voice behind me say " ?......" I turn around, and who is there? None other than Bella Fella Extraordinaire, Brent! He has 2 cute little red-headed girls with him and he came out to watch the race. It totally made me relax before my race to get to talk to him. Jen showed up later after she got off work too.

Not a good race for me as I crashed on the first lap in one of the multitude of loose corners. Bruises and scrapes, all small, which was amazing for how dramatically I must have flown for all the attention I got from other gals racing! But it sapped my confidence for most of the race so I didn't place well.

The next week there was a repeat of this race on a slightly different version of the same course but with just as many loose corners. Fortunately, I realized I hadn't been on my cross bike since the previous December and that's why I wasn't riding well and I took the bike out for a few rides for it to remember how to handle itself. I did way better, felt like I was actually racing, and got 2nd!

And, because this was an evening race there were only 2 overall flights of racing so the A men were on the course with us 45+ women as well as all the men except the various C categories, so I had Brent on the course with me and Barry Wicks! So that was all pretty exciting. They had almost 300 people in these 2 races, on a Wed night. Crazy.

Then 3 days later, there was a weekend of races on a private ranch just outside of town. Ride Hard Finish Thristy sponsored by Boneyard Brewing. Plenty of beer. The guy wrenching the pit had a growler he started on at 10:30am. It was pretty warm Saturday and I got pretty baked but it was a good day of racing. That was Saturday. I just couldn't get myself to race on Sunday. 3 races in 10 days was all this geriatric body could take!

Walk forward from our car, take a left at the bottom of the gully where the pit is and this is the view. There is an irrigation pond in the background that they emptied to make plenty of mud......which was actually nice as it was cool as it splashed you on this hot day!
