What:Group Cycling Clinic – Rules of the road and how to feel confident/safe
Where: Hains Point Provincial Park, Washington DC – Tennis Courts – Parking is available if you don’t want to ride-in
When:12:00pm; Saturday May 1, 2010
Why: Because riding in a group is fun, but we want to feel safe/confidant while doing so. This is a beginner’s class and meant to ensure everyone who attends feels ready/able to participate in any group ride they want to
What Will I learn?: Hand signals, rules of the road, how not to cause crashes, how to deal with groups on urban streets, how to maximize effort while minimizing energy and how to encourage others to join your group rides
How:We will meet at the Tennis courts and spend about 20 minutes or so talking about common “rules,” things to think about, what to/not-to do during a group ride and answer ANY questions ANYONE has. We will then go on a short (approximately one hour) group ride across the Potomac River into northern VA and the speed will be moderate. Focus will be on maintaining a good formation and providing participants to experience a variety of road conditions (trails, side-streets, major roads) with which to learn and gain confidence.
