Well, I went for it. After an incredible first season of short-track and 'cross, I knew that the bike I'd cobbled together from the bins was a liability. It was too small and too heavy and if I was going to commit to singlespeed for both disciplines in 2010 that Q/R rear wheel with too many hub spacers and the Convert kit just HAD to go. So after talking it over with my sweetie and swinging a little deal, I landed a Redline Monocog (26" wheel version), and swapped in some nicer parts to make it even better (and almost two pounds lighter than my Kona, if you can believe it).
It's a work in progress. I'm swapping in lighter cranks and BB and a set of Crank Bros 5050 XX's (with -- gasp! -- pink pedal plates to match the equally pink housing and PDW grips, already installed along with the Misfit FU2-bars from the Kona). I promise to offer a full complment of photos when it's all ready, but this is how far I've gotten. I took it over to the park for some fun a couple of days ago and realized that it fits better, rides smoother, jumps the baby berms with much more control and will be a blast when short-track season comes around again. OMG it is so much fun!
