After my first season of cross comes to a close in a couple of weeks, I am happy to report that I will be meeting with Cross Crusade organizers to discuss the possible creation of a womens' singlespeed classification at next year's Crusade.
The reason for this is that there are MANY women who want to race SS but who are intimidated by a start field of 300 men in the current singlespeed class. There are three to five women who race with the men but who never finish higher than about 20 or so. And most of these women would qualify to race with the A's so they are among the strongest women racers out there.
I was told that if I could assemble a list of twenty women, that would "start the discussion". To date I have 36 women on my list and more coming in. It is my hope that women could race within the women's race hour but be tallied separately as singlespeeders, thereby getting some credit for choosing to race in a way that is fresh and exciting and has its own set of challenges.
I would LOVE to hear from anyone who thinks they might come race Cross Crusade next year (even one race) and who would want to try singlespeed. Lemme know.
