Hey All!

Thanks to Cathy Boland for doing all the behind the scenes webhosting trickery, we are now live with our new website!!

http://www.velobella.org

I have never before designed a website, but I had a blast making this one. I wanted some way to combine all of our different regional and race activity into one happy home. I also wanted it to be easily updated by a group of contributors. So far, it seems to be working out great.

I still need to get a few more regions up and running (folks from the Northwest and Midatlantic have volunteered and I just havent had a chance to set the up yet...)

If you have worked on any of the Pages of the website, please go back and check to make certain all of your intrawebsite links still work. Some of them may no longer work since we switched the url path. Dont worry about this for blog posts, just for the more static information thats on the Pages (the items in the top menu bar)

Thanks everyone who has contributed to this!

Sabine

The Mid-A Bellas are having a recruiting event on September 4th, and I'm getting alot of inquiries on whether Mid-A will have a regional site on Velo Bella.  Any chance we can get our regional section restored to the website before then?

Thanks!

Oh shit

I totally forgot to mention all the code clean up that Jen and her fella did for us! I just made a mess of things and they cleaned them all up!

I am going to blame that on the concussion!

Well, the Mid-A Bellas had a purrrrrfect HH last night.....but we still don't have a home on the forum, or the Velo Bella Home Page.  Please, someone let me know what I can do to get us back! :(

The new website looks great, but I have one little question.  Where do I fall as a bella that's not in one of the listed regions?  People see me out and about all dressed in my VB gear with my matching VB bike (thanks Sabine) and now they go to the website and don't see me anymore.  I was just wondering if there were planns to re-add the "Other bellas" section, or am I the last one.

The new website looks AWESOME!  THANK YOU, so much, to everyone who worked on making it happen!

Just curious about one thing .... will there be a 'cross section under the results tab?  And if not, where does 'cross fall?  Road? MTB?  Both?

I am currently filing CX under Road results as that is its origins for lack of a better reason.  But I'm hoping to get a separate category set up for it.

Has anyone noticed that at the website landing page, the flikr photos show headless bellas

It's a little bit artistic ... seeing the kits and frames only ... but clicking on the images takes you to larger pictures in Flikr.  Larger pictures without decapitation !

Can anyone fix that?  Photo size or resolution setting for the links?

Yeah, that's a problem for both the flickr boxes and the news/race report pictures.

We actually tried to mess with photo re-sizer a bit on the story photos, but it isn't possible.  Basically, there's a re-size algorithm thingy that automatically re-sizes/thumbnails the uploaded photos to fit in the home page boxes.

When I do the posts, I try to pick photos that will work in that space, but it's pretty hit or miss.  Some of them, I totally expect to work, and they just don't.  Also, it takes the first photo I upload for each story, and I haven't figured out how to fool it into picking another one if the first one comes out wacky.

For the row of Flickr boxes on the home page, it's much the same dealio.  Flickr has an algorithm that does the re-size/thumbnailing to fit in those squares.  Some of the photos are going to work better than others.  The only way around that really, would be to have a separate gallery of square photos designed specifically for that page element.  Muchas extra work.  And even then, the automated thumbnail maker thingy might still mix things up.
