USA Cycling has just released the 2007 mountain bike calendar. There's a number of good east coast races on it. Eight of the 27 events will be awarding UCI points: the six NMBS events, Greenbrier Challenge near Hagerstown, MD, and the Maplelag Spring Opener in Minnesota. Incidentally, Greenbrier is less than one hour away from our house. Schweeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Is that course mainly the red trail...with the two steep rocky portions?
We went there over summer---it was about 90 degrees and 90% humidity and that trail just about did me in. April sounds like a much better time of year. Anyone else racing?

They don't have the course map on the website anymore, but that sounds about right. Last year it started from near the boat launch and went counter-clockwise.

The race was a huge success. A great turnout and great weather. The course was in great shape too.
It was a real treat to see the pros out there, especially the locals - like the whole Trek East coast team. And ofcourse to see Katie C racing back in her hometown region again as well.
It was a tough course with some steep rocky hills that even the pros had to walk during the race, okay not all of them walked, but more than I expected.
It's funny, all the times we rode the course this winter, the trail seemed easy. The hills were rideable and the rock gardens were more tame than I remembered. I forgot about the affects of race-day adrenaline that makes any course seem 5x harder than it really is. Nonetheless everyone seemed to have had a good time.
I was content with my third place in my class and fourth overall in the expert combined field. Hoped for a little better, but it gives me that little extra motivation to train harder.
