Rick is an awesome guy, and a regular at the trail at Chickasaw. Please consider helping in any way you can, and when I get details about the charity ride, I will post them up.
One of our own has been hit with some hard news. Fellow racer Rick Harmon has been diagnosed with cancer. Rick is a good friend of mine and one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He's been around the sport for longer than I've been alive.
Rick is a legendary mechanic currently working for Harpeth Bicycles in Franklin, TN. He can turn a wrench with the best in the world. The man has gone out of his way to help me out by providing me with tons of mountain biking knowledge that I couldn't get anywhere else. He has fixed my bike when I thought it was irrepairable. He has done the same for countless others over the years. I know most of you have seen him racing all over the Southeast in the Expert 40-49 class. He was always one of my traveling buddies in Kenny Marshall's Yeti Van.
Rick is in a tight spot when it comes to paying for the chemo treatment he needs. He has no health insurance. He battled a gum infection all last year that has drained him of his funds. Doctors thought the infection was causing him to feel sick throughout the season, but it turned out to be cancer. So, I think it is time we give back to Mr. Harmon for all the things he has given to us.
There will be a donation jar sitting around at the upcoming races. If you don't see the jar and want to give, find me, Mark Poore, or Craig Evans. Craig is trying to organize a benefit ride for Rick to take place sometime soon.
Just wanted to pass along that information and try to get the word out that we are trying to help a brother out in a time of need. Thanks
