This is a post from a friend at NashvilleMountainBike.com...thought it might be of interest....
"Just wanted to put out to the NMB community some interesting information I have gained in the last week or so. TBRA has voted to have points involved this year in the Beginner category. This is for the 2008 season. Jennifer Morehead, who is the mountain bike director for TBRA, and also Theresa Moore, former mountain bike director, confirmed this for me today.
What I am told is that points will be kept for all beginner categories for the TBRA races during 2008. Updated point totals will be kept on the TBRA website at http://www.tbra.org. Riders wishing to compete for points will be required to purchase an annual license from usa cycling. This can be done at http://www.usacycling.org.
A rider will not accumulate points if they only purchase a one day license at the event. (This is the same requirement for sport and expert classes).
Another item of note is that if you are on a team, points earned in the beginner classes will not count towards team points. They are only for the individual rider.
Lastly, there will be no awarding of a state champions jersey for the beginner class winner like they do in the sport and expert classes.
Personally, I think this is pretty cool for the beginner class even without the state jersey and team points. I think it will reward those in the beginner classes who make the races and give them something beyond a one day result to shoot for this year."

SHIT!!! I wish I would have known this sooner! the only reason why I signed up under Sport was to get points for the team..... DAMN... I could have saved myself from dying seeing that I'm no where near bike shape let alone, sport shape! I haven't been on my bike since Monkey Bell and still have 15 pounds of post-baby fat and beer to lose. DAMN IT!

Amy -
If you haven't bought your license for this year yet, you could technically bump back down to beginner since you haven't really raced since 2006. And, if you have, you could see if USAC would allow you to bump back down since you did not race the entire season last year.

| But, if you did bump down to beginner, the team would still not get your points. We voted at the general membership meeting that, at least for this year, any points earned at the beginner level would not count toward team points.

Hey Jennifer!
Yea, like a dumb ass I already purchased it. OKAY... here's the deal. I'm FAT and I'm SLOW and still nursing my back from the car accident. So, I'm going to ride the races in the sport class, but everyone is going to need to help keep me going for the second lap! Because I'm going to die!!! I haven't been on my bike at ALL this year! I might end up being at the Chickasaw race, because my trip will be back in town the Wed before the race. Hope to see you soon!

| You'll be fine. Just approach it like a group ride. And, don't forget that we voted to include Wood n Wave's races in the TBRA series this year, so on April 19th and 20th, they will have their TT and XC races. That course is a fun one to race as well.

I think I might be out of town traveling for work during that time. But, if I'm here... I'm THERE!
I can't wait to see everyone! Hopefully I'll lose another pound or two by then!
