Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to give you an update on the event and I put it in the public section as a number of Bellas seem to have lost their passwords....

Friday, Jan20th

For those of you that are arriving Friday, there will be an open house/reception at our new sponsor Best Bike Zone.  It will be sometime in the early evening, mostly likely, but the time isn't set yet.  I will update this when we have a time.  If you think you will be there to make this on Friday, please let me know.  If we don't have enough gals coming on Friday, we may have to move this as we want a decent showing for our sponsor.

During the day there is a ride that will likely be a small group around Lake San Antonio.  It is about 50 miles and I understand that it isn't overly hilly but I've never done it.  Starting at noon at the Lockwood General Store.

Saturday

Ride starting at the hotel at 10am, just a little over 40 miles, again nothing super hilly.  No drop ride.  The plan is to be back to have time for some wine tasting in the afternoon.  Best Bike Zone owner and new Bella Carol will be giving us some good ideas on where to go.  For those who need more miles and more hills, there will be an alternate add-on to the ride.  But then you'll miss the wine tasting.  Up to you.

Dinner at Lombardi's at 6pm.  I'll need a fairly firm count for dinner the day before so please let me know if your plans change.

Sunday

Ride start time is going to be 9 or 10 am.  We'll likely talk about it Saturday and see what works with hotel checkout time and the weather.  Plan is for a 30 mile, no drop, flattish ride.

Our focus is on the social part of the Bash, not to make it a hammerfest.  Well, you can make it your own personal hammerfest if you want but that is in your own spare time!!

Current list of attendees:

Sue & Gordon (Sue's our main organizer for this event)
Linda & Erika ( & kitties)
Elizabeth & Matthew (leading Friday's optional ride)
Carol Fleury (shop owner and new Bella)
Marsha (staying at her Mom's)
Monica & David
Laura
Liz
Camille
Brenda & Skip
Andi
Amy A.
Sabine
Lara (new Bella)
Beth W. & Terry (arriving Sat afternoon)

Think sunshine!

WEEKEND & WEATHER UPDATE

Here is the forecast from Beth Welliver for the weekend:

Good evening Bellas...its your favorite Weather Nerd Bella with the weather outlook for this weekend in Paso Robles.

Friday afternoon - Bring a sheet to tie on your bike and a snorkel for your mouth...and pretend you're windsurfing.

Saturday - Ever been in a water gun fight? The morning ride will be a little like taking a Super Soaker to the face, especially if you're not first wheel. But the afternoon should be better...still a little showery, but not a complete washout. Of course we'll be drinking wine then, so as long as its not raining in your glass, life is good.

Sunday - Probably the best of the three days for a ride. Some spotty showers in the afternoon, but I think you'll be able to sneak in a few hours of relative dryness in the morning.

Okay, seriously, Friday night into Saturday morning will see heavy rain in the Paso area, but the heaviest stuff should be out of there between 8 and 9 that morning. If the plan is to still ride at 10, you won't have a nice ride, but it shouldn't be pouring. Raining, probably, but you won't be drowning, and the wind should be dying down. I'd expect some local heavy downpours, but generally sprinkles to light rain and maybe a few sunbeams every now and then. The models currently have Sunday looking really nice, but the models frequently miss those little popcorn showers behind a cold front. So I'll say Sunday should be nice but you'd better have that rain jacket in the back jersey pocket.

I'll do an pre-camp update again Friday.

See ya!
Beth

OK, it's again.
Here is what Carol Fleury tells us about Friday's reception:

Hello wonderful Velo Bellas!

We are so excited you are coming to Paso - those of you arriving early enough Friday are invited to drop by our shop for a little wine and some munchies from 3:00 to 6:00 pm Friday.

To get to us from La Quinta, just hop back on the 101 at Highway 46 going South, and get off at the next exit which is 16th Street exit (puts you onto Riverside).

Turn right on Riverside and go to the traffic light (13th).

Turn left on 13th which takes you over the freeway to the next traffic light (Paso Roble Street).

Turn right at Paso Robles Street and we are located on the left side almost at the end of the street #712.  It's hard to see us coming from that direction so if you miss us, there is a roundabout at the end of the street and you'll see us right after you start coming the other way.  Watch for cars - the end of the street serves as an off ramp for the 101.

There is ample off-street parking for our shop.

The weather forecast is getting to be less rain and more sun for the weekend!  Yahoo!

Smiles to all of you
Carol Fleury
Best Bike Zone

Given the forecast, Elizabeth has cancelled Friday's ride unless she hears from anyone who still wants to ride so let us know if you want to ride Friday.

Also, I need a final count for dinner Sat by Friday for the restaurant.  So if you've said you were going, I've got you.  If you are changing your plans due to the weather or any other reason and won't make dinner on Sat let me know as soon as you can.

I think that's all the news!

Updated Forecast

Friday - rainy
Saturday morning - Rain still looks to end somewhere between 8 and 10, and amounts are much less now than originally forecast. I would still expect some spotty showers to linger around until about 1 or 2 in the afternoon, but for the most part, the ride won't be a soaker.
Sunday - looks great for a ride. Should be sunny and not too windy until late in the afternoon. Rain developing again late Sunday afternoon into evening.

See you Saturday afternoon! We have things to take care of here tomorrow morning, but we'll meet up for the wine and dinner!

maybe you already heard about it, but there is another race you might want to think about also--cantua creek road race.

it's "close" to you and is an excellent race for a new racer.
