I'll be in San Francisco/Oakland Aug 6-17th for 2 weddings. They are a week apart, so I'll have time to ride. I'm also dragging the boyfriend out there for his first bay area experience EVER. We'll probably be staying in Oakland or El Cerrito. I want to make sure he likes it out there....
However, the catch is, despite living in Oakland for 2 years, I have NO IDEA how to get around by car, and only a vague very annoyed clue how to get around by public transit. So, I'm hoping to either borrow or rent some geared (preferrably) commuter bikes for a couple of days. And a decent road or cross bike for a afternoon or 2 of riding... (anyone up for a ride up around Marin? Cheese Factory?).
I ride a 53cm or 54cm... the boyfriend--- ummm... a 49cm with a long top tube. I think we're both around 17" for mtb/commuters.
Or... would you guys suggest we fly/ship out bikes out?
I have a couple of cross bikes you can probably use. One is a 50" long top tube/high bottom bracket Bontrager and the other is a 52 Steelman. The only thing is I live about 1.5 hours south of Oakland, so we'd have to figure out a way to get the bikes to you.
Thanks SO MUCH for the offer. It's totally appreciated. I'm still trying to nail down with my family the details of the trip. (Family wedding/reunion with everyone from several continents and a friend's wedding-- both of which are San Francisco/East Bay... ).. .
