Coming up on Friday, May 9th, Michael will be presenting the first of a series of Friday Night Races! Each Friday is being promoted by a different team and will have a slightly different schedule, but there will be a series long competition in a couple of events. For women, it will be the Points race.

Women will get their own races at these events, which I think is a first in a while for Friday nights. In fact, a few folks have warned Michael away from offering a women's only event because of the possibility of low turnout. So, I am hoping that any female trackies out there come out and prove them wrong!

Note that the flyer states that the racing is for Women 1/2/3, however, if you are a cat 4 trackie (like me) but if you have experience racing at something beyond the Saturday beginner sessions, you can get permission to race. Just email Michael in advance of the race.

Here are the details for the upcoming event:

Sorry for the delay, but here is the Friday Night Race Schedule for May 9th (please note, each Friday Night will have it's own flair and schedule, with the exception of standing events of Sprints, Women's Points, and Masters Scratch).  It's a short night, built around getting folks in and out of the track to still enjoy their evening.  Tell your friends and family that spectating will be high on the fun meter as we jam through the night.

These times are rough and we must expect surprises, but i just want you all to know how we'll try and keep to schedule:

5:30pm track opens (no rental bikes)
6:55pm clear track
7:00pm Round 1 of Sprints (12 riders: 3-up sprints with random draws and top-2 advancing)
7:15pm 40+, 50+ 20 lap Scratch Race (may split fields if enough entrants)
7:30pm Round 2 of Sprints (2-ups, winner advances)
7:40pm KIDDIE KILO!!!
7:45pm P1/2/3 15 lap Tempo Race
7:55pm Women's Points Race (30 lap, sprints @ 5 laps)
8:10pm Semi-Finals of Sprints (2-ups, winner advances)
8:20pm 3/4, 40+ MadDash's Inverse Win-n-Out, 10 lap
8:30pm P1/2/3 MadDash's Inverse Win-n-Out, 15 lap
8:40pm Women's Miss-n-Out
8:50pm 3/4, 40+ Miss-n-Out
9:00pm Sprint Finals
9:10pm P1/2/3 Miss-n-Out

Please note:
*35 rider field limit on all mass start events.  Registration will be day of, and first serve.

**SPRINTERS - there are only 12 spots open per Friday Night ... do you want to reserve a spot?  If so, email me immediately to get on the list - PLEASE INCLUDE WHICH FRIDAY NIGHTS you'd like to pre-register for!!!
schedule: http://ridethetrack.com/pdf/fridays_08.pdf

We have a committee who will be reviewing the sprint lists and I'll publish pre-reg'd starters asap. These are high profile events for our Friday Nights ... so please send in your name immediately if you want to be racing(even if you've been contacted already, please)!  The Sprint Series standings will likely be points based with best 3 out of 6 Friday Night events counting towards the overall, with series standing leaders given preference to the Friday Night Final 9/19.

***Masters - we will try and separate out the 40+ and 50+ fields if we have enough entrants per night.

****Junior Riders are encouraged to race to their category and as per the discretion of their parents/coaches/promoter.

Rain cancels, of course.

Cash and merchandise prizes for all categories per night. Primes will be out there, as well (lantern rouge primes are definite possibilities).  There will be year long series standings and awards for the Sprints, Women's Points, and Masters Scratch.  There will not, however, be a nightly omnium.

May 9th we'll have live music, 6-7pm from Kenny Schick.  He plays the guitar with soulful percussion and has some amazing lyrics to keep you swinging.  You can check out some of his music here.

There will also be some nice beverages and snacky foods for folks to enjoy while they listen to music, watch some great racing, and soak in our famous "hellyer golden-sunset".

So, say I've never ridden on a track, but am really interested in giving it a go.  How would you recommend getting started?

Hi Susie

You would need to complete at least 3 Saturday morning sessions (see ridethetrack.com for info on Saturday beginner sessions) These sessions are totally fun!

Also, Michael is hoping to start up Saturday beginner sessions on Monday nights. More info on that if it happens.

Then I would come out for a couple of Tuesday or Wednesday night events. These are both very low key race nights. The focus on Tuesday is on fitness and Larry is great about keeping the evening well balanced. Wednesdays are a bunch of races, but the vibe and atosphere is low key so its a great way to learn. In both of these nights, C level racing is offered and if enough women show, we get our own races!
