Hi All!

Just starting a new thread for the weekly Saturday MTB rides. I will keep posting these until full fledged racing interrupts.

These rides are meant to be moderately paced, 3-4 hours, chitty chat pace up the climbs, whoop-whoop on the descents.

Email me, pm me, respond to this thread or somehow let me know if you have any questions on these rides.

Anyone is invited, not just bellas.

Saturday, January 5th

Looks like rain again, so we'll be heading back to the happy trails. The sandy soil of the happy trails holds up remarkably well in the wet. And they're fun. This time we will meet in the parking lot of the old hospital. If Daphne comes, she can lead us as there is a shit load of new trails out there and she knows them all! If no Daphne, then I will set us all to wandering, maybe even skipping over into the Sea Otter territory for a quickie.

Saturday January 5th
10:30 a.m.
DOD Building (former hospital) in Ft Ord (map
here)

Heavy rain will cancel this ride. I will post to this thread if I know in time its cancelled. Also you can call me at 831.236.1978

Hey guys!

I don't have power at home so I will not be able to post to this forum tomorrow. Anyhoo, I will be there, so be brave and show up! We've got about 5 people so far. You guys are crazy!

Thank you Heather, Justin, Beth, Laura, Michael and most especially Daphne for a GREAT ride! How lucky were we? It totally started pouring a bit after we stopped.

Moss Landing was outstanding, and not just the margarita. Michael and I added to our day's fortune by watching the most amazing stormy sunset. I'll post a pic of it later....

Thanks!

Well, I am thinking that its still too wet for Santa Cruz/Redwood trails this weekend, especially with more rain coming. But its been sooo many days on the happy trails that I think we need to mix it up a little.

Anyone interested in leading a Coe ride this Saturday? I dont know my way around that place enough to lead a ride, but I think this weekend will be an awesome time to visit. Some parts of the park are still closed to fire damage though I think.

If interested, let me know!

Yay! Ann Fitzsimmons has agreed to lead us on a ride at Coe!

MTB Ride for Saturday, Jan 12th

10:00AM
Henry Coe State Park
Hunting Hollow Entrance in Gilroy
Directions:
http://www.coepark.org/directionsse.html

This is an almost perfect time to ride Henry Coe Park. (Perfect time is during the spring bloom, so we'll come back for that!) Coe is a wonderful gem in our area. Vast, epic. rugged. Luckily though, we will be riding in the southern part of the park, which is a little less brutal than the northern. Ann promises singletrack galore and tough granny gear climbs. Ride time is about 3-4 hours.

Here's Ann's ride description:

I’d say let’s ride the Gilroy entrance and meet at the Hunting Hollow dirt parking lot at 10am (it’s off of Roop Rd.). I kind of have a route in my head, but we can totally change it up based on how everyone is feeling Saturday and how long they want to go for. But, one thought I had (but we can totally change it up
J) was ride up the main fire road to top of the ridge, hit a fun descent to some rolling double track, back to rolling fire road, up this steep-ass double track climb called "Serpentine" to the tallest peak of Coe "Wilson Peak" and hit "Spike Jones" trail as a descent to end the ride. Thing with Coe… there will be lots of climbing, but we are guaranteed to end on a fun descent! This route with some stopping would probably be 3hrs, maybe?

I love, love, love riding in Coe!!!  Alas, I am going to hit the track day instead...next time!

When Ann says 'steep-ass' climb for Serpetine, it ain't no joke.  But so worth it for the Wilson Peak, then Spike Jones descent.  Rippin' good fun.  Be sure to bring beer and food for after...Hunting Hollow has a nice big (dirt) parking lot...perfect for after ride recovery hanging out:)

And here's a site that lists out a bunch of Coe rides...if you're interested:

Have fun!!!

PS:  Just a note that the top part of the park did burn earlier this year, so it's good to stick to the Hunting Hollow entrance for now...

Darn, I already made plans to ride with some school friends that I've been blowing off riding with for the last month...I mean seriously, ride with study buddies, or ride with Bellas! Sadly I can't blow them off again.

Buuut, if anyone wants to sleep in and enjoy a very chatty paced ride, we'll be at Ft Ord, 8th and Gigling parking lot at 1:00 tomorrow. Call me at 937.260.3345 if you want to come along so we don't leave without you.

For fun though, I highly recommend riding with Dawn in Santa Cruz. She kicks booty and is entertaining riding company!

I'm coming down with a friend to ride demo on  Sunday - we'll probably be there around 1pm.  Anyone down to ride?  can we get to the demo parking lot from highland anymore?

Allie - I'll be at Demo on Sunday...but we are starting at 9 from Aptos to climb up Nisene and then dropping into Demo and doing two loops I think...so I probably miss you.

The road is closed from that side now, so you'll have to go around to get to Demo.

Howdy,

Do you all have a time and lexact location for this Saturday, the 2nd? When you do let me know and maybe we can carpool. It would be fun to be on the mtn bike again.

We usually decide on the Thursday or so before the weekend because it depends on the weather.

Well, I was really really hoping that we could ride Demo this weekend, but the rain continues. So we will go back to Ft Ord. However, to change it up a little, we'll focus more on the Sea Otterish area trails and start at the 7-11 in Portola Village

And stay in town and join us for the bella seminar and keynote speeches!

Yay!!! No rain this week. I am ready to give Demo a try. Double yay!! Double yay means two loops this time.  Of course that offers a bail out option for those that want to only do one.

We can meet at my house at 9:30 or at the parking lot at Demo at 10:00.  Those who meet at my house can carpool up to the lot if you wanna. If yoou meet at Demo, park in the little parking lot across the bridge. There have been break ins of cars parked along the road.

Saturday, February 9th
9:30 a.m.
724 Eureka Canyon Road, Watsonville, CA (map here)

And, stay in town for the Bella Fandango party!! Anyone on the ride is welcome to hang out at my house to shower and otherwise get ready for the party. Aptos is just 15 minutes from my house.

Fun!!!

There's a good amount of climbing, especially if you do two loops. Most of the climbing is of the middle ring fireroad sort. The two loop option has some steep climbing that will absolutely kill me on the dawg, but its worth it.

The descent is 100% singletrack. But its of the swoopy kind! There are a few technical bits, but nothing freakishly scary and the bits are far and between enough that you can simply walk these sections and be back on the bike for more swoopy stuff.

We'll climb up to Santa Rosalia and then drop down to Saw Pit. From there, anyone who wants to do only one lap can climb on home. The two lappers will climb up Sulpher (suffer) springs and do a descent down Braille. One lap is about 12 miles the second loop will add about 6.

In my humble opinion, Demo is the best mtb riding we have in the bay area. Its a real treat to ride there.

would that be minnie or daisy?

also...not sure where to put this since it's not really about the mtn bike ride....

I fall down on my mtn bike and hit corners because I don't steer very well.  So, I'm going to bring my road bike.  If anyone wants to do a road ride, I welcome the company.

p.s. Sabine-I may need a map of good places to go on the road.
