I thought I would get a thread started about regular group rides that we know about. I'll put a sticky on this thread so that it always stays on top and anyone can reference it. I'll start with a couple.

These rides are not organized or sanctioned by Velo Bella and are placed here for information purposes only.

MORGAN HILL

Saturday - Intermediate ride of about 25-30 miles. I believe this is a coed ride but it made up of mostly all women. Starts at 9:00

Sunday - Advanced ride of about 35-40 miles. More guys and speed on this one.

They are also contemplating a Wednesday lunch ride at 12:30 if there is enough interest.

MOre info on this store and to contact them about the rides here

MONTEREY

Road

Saturday: 7:00 am, Monterey Plaza @ Pino’s Italian Cafe Fast pace south through PG and Pebble beach and back. 38 miles. [map] This is Monterey's classic Saturday Morning Ride (SMR), always a good crowd of at least 20 and upwards of 100 riders on peak days. A challenging and scenic 38 mile hilly ride through Pebble Beach and back to Monterey for coffee at East Village Coffeehouse, formerly Morgan's, (498 Washington St).

Saturday: 7:30 am, a more moderate option to the 7am Heavy Metal ride.  More of a B+ ride, compared to the A-riders.  Same distance and total climbing as the 7 am ride. The group varies from 6 or 8 up to 20 or 25, depending on weather conditions and individual obligations.  Same conclusion: East Village Coffeehouse, formerly Morgan's, in Monterey.

Saturday: 8:00 am, parking lot behind movie theater in Pacific Grove (intersection of Laurel Ave and 15th St) Essentially the same route as the 7:00am SMR. (through Pebble Beach, back for coffee at Goodie's in PG - 518 Lighthouse Ave). Moderate and faster pace; two groups. Tends to be a slightly more mellow ride, but still challenging and hilly and beautifully scenic.
[printable map]

Sunday: 8:00 am, Bay Books (316 Alvarado St)Bay Books.
Moderate pace; distance and destination determined on the spot.

Sunday: 8:00 am, From 7/11 at Toro Park
A good, casual, friendly group with some pace line and double echelons. Most average riders enjoy this one. From 10-20 riders show up.

 Sunday: varied starting locations
Mellow Velo. Beginner and slower paced ride. 20-40 miles. Contact ride organizer at
melo_velo@hotmail.com

Tuesday: 9:00 am, near the Custom House on Old Fisherman's Wharf
No Real Job Ride. Fisherman’s Wharf. Hilly ride through Former Fort Ord and Barloy Canyon, then to East Village Coffee Lounge, Monterey. 30mi. +/- Everybody welcome. [map] [printable map]

Thursday: 5:00 pm, Casa Verde and Bike path at 5:00 pm, Burger King in Fort Ord at 5:30 pm
Casa Verde and Bike Path. (March, after clocks go forward). This ride meets briefly here and then proceeds to Burger King in Fort Ord for meeting at 5:30 pm. Total ride approximately 25 miles.

Mountain

Wednesday: 5:30 pm, 8th and Gigling at Fort Ord [parking area]
This ride is from our friends at MORCA - Monterey Off Road Cycling Association.
The ride is usually a moderate pace...depending on who shows.  It is no drop with occasional rest breaks.  Ride time is about 1.5 - 2 hours.  5-10 people regularly show up. This ride continues until about late September or when it get too dark.

MONTEREY AND SANTA CRUZ

Something we made up when we first started Velo Bella

http://velobella.org/rides_monterey_bay.htm

be forewarned, some of the info might be outdated, but I think most of the rides remain. And the dragon maps are too cute to pass up.

Port Ride in Oaklandish.

Meets at the Lake Merritt Pavilion at the north east ish end of the lake at 7pm e'ry Tuesday night.  From there it's to the Port of Oakland.

Looped course.  Generally not a lot of traffic.  Generally clean streets (once at the Port), and well lit.

Pace is generally manly-manish, but because it's a looped course you can hop back on or ride in the opposite direction to get back with the group.

The cool kids have started riding the fixies to this ride now (with not one but two brakes!) so the pace is a little more mellow and there are fewer attacks.

It's good for pack skills.

Burritos and beer after.

MORCA is still hosting social MTB rides in Monterey at 8th and Giggling at 5:30pm.  Bike lights are essential!  Ride is 1 - 1.5 hours, casual pace (depending on who leads), and no-drop (hey, it's dark).  Occasionally, a small group of us heads to the Ol' Factory cafe afterwards.

Any road rides happening this time of the year?

Anna

Folsom, CA (just above Sacramento)

Saturday Folsom Road Ride - Every Saturday

Meets in the parking lot of Coffee Republic on the corner of Folsom-Auburn Rd. and Greenback Lane. (There's a McDonalds in the same parking lot too)

Ride leaves at 9am sharp

Heads up through the foothills - Granite Bay, Loomis, Penryn, New Castle, Auburn, then back down Auburn-Folsom Rd. back to Folsom.

Around 48 miles - hilly - 2 hours-ish

Very Fast Pace. However, a slower paced group forms at the back. That group tends to be a pretty good group and rides a moderate pace. They are not in a hurry and they stick together.

A good group of women attend. Make sure to let anyone know that you are not familiar with the routes.

If you are interested, please email me and I will email you the exact route/directions.

Hope to see some VBs out there.
