What a sight ! 1700+ girls mobbed the streets of Kalamazoo (Mi) for last night's "celebration 5k" run/walk. Part of Greater Kalamazoo's Girls on the Run program, this was the culmination of a 10 week program designed to build fitness, self-esteem, self-confidence, and community involvement.
Why am I posting this on our BIKE site? Several local cyclists served as volunteer course marshalls...making sure the girls stayed on course, cheering the girls on, making sure everyone remembered the event was for fun and a celebration of their 10 weeks of hard work.
And...girls and parents alike fell in love with my bike, which really made my day
- "Hey Mom, can I get a bike like that?"
- "Wow -- cool bike! Can I ride it after the run?"
- "Do you race your bike like THAT!?"
- "Bikes are so cool"
- "Do you think I could be a bike racer ?"
- etc., etc., etc.
