It's sort of funny because I heard about that article about a week or so ago, because two different friends both blogged about how depressed it made them. I guess it's all how you choose to look at it.
My mother-in-law sent me the link to this article, and highlighted this line for me:
"The exceptional attributes of cyclists and other endurance athletes are less obvious—they’re hidden in their blood and their lungs. For this reason, it’s not uncommon, especially in women’s cycling, for athletes to discover their hidden talents late in life..."
This was followed by her statement:
"I think that it's great that you are exploring bike racing right now. Obviously, riding so hard is good for clearing your head AND it's good for your body. Braving potential ridicule and rejection by getting into racing at your age inspires me to do more, too."
How can a gal read this article and NOT cheer? I think this is a GREAT story and I hope Evelyn Stevens' gifts can take her very, very far. She certainly inspires me to get out there and ride.
