I introduced myself a little while back and it was suggested in the forum that I get an email group together. It's done. I now have a list of 21 cyclists (yes some males want to be in the group).
I organised the 2007 Women's Bike Ride on the Sunshine Coast (Australia) but I'm running into problems this year. The state cycling body does not want to sponsor me insurance and the local shire councils don't either (the councils are in the process of merging so some staff will lose jobs and all work will be centralised hence no one wants to help me). How do you girls organise major Women's Rides over there in the US?
We get event insurance through our cycling organization, USA Cycling. We are a member club and there is an additional fee (fee depends upon the event, but is usually $50 for non-competitive events) This is required for events where the public is invited. For Velo Bella only events, we are automatically covered through USA Cycling.
