Sorry for such a late posting...
As most of you know, Tara Llanes, one of the finest US womens gravity racers was paralyzed during competition this summer. This race is a non-profit benefit to raise funds for her. Although she has medical insurance there are many things that insurance will not cover.
The race is a 4x format at Sand Hill and 100% of the proceeds go to Tara's recovery fund.
Everyone, come out and race for a good cause, fun and prizes. It's supposed to be nice this weekend so they'll have the dual slalom course open for practice as well.
Check out http://racefortara.com and http://prsports.com for directions to Sand Hill.
If anyone from the North Bay wants to carpool, pm me.

This event was amazing. It was really really heartwarming to see outpouring of support in the mountain biking community. I'm not sure how many people were there racing, I think maybe a couple hundred at most.
Local bike shops, Bike companies, smaller shops and individuals kicked in for the raffle, which, from what I heard brought in over $6k!
All of the proceeds from the race, food and raffle went to Tara's fund, and at the end of the race they even got her on the phone.
She is a strong, positive and grateful person who gives back to the community and is extremely deserving of all of the support. Hopefully the progress she's making will get her back on her feet!
About the race itself:
We raced the 4x. Lots of pro guys, and a healthy women's field to make up beginner, sport and pro/expert fields.
4X is such a crazy event. It makes me feel like either the "hunter" or the "hunted" every time. You pedal like crazy because you know people are gunning for you, or you're trying to run them down yourself. Either situation gets the adrenaline going!
The pro/expert women's category went like this:
Race 1: "And they're off! Burch snaps the gate and leads by a wheel. Baker makes a move, closes the gap and takes the inside of turn one. Baker leads by a length and is gaining momentum. Burch is trying to hang on in turn three but cuts too wide and Aldridge shoots ahead. It’s Baker, Aldrige Burch into turn four with Baker leading by four lengths into the last rhythm section. OH NO! Baker bobbles and goes off course forty feet before the finish! Aldrige shoots through the finish with Burch coming in for second! And that’s how it goes in 4x Race fans, An-y-thing can happen!
We raced a total of three motos, and the final results were tallied from the results of all three.
The final results were: Lainey Aldridge, Allie Burch, Jackie Baker, Jen McNiven and Nova Harston.
The bummer of the day was that one of the guys fell pretty hard on the last rhythm section and had to be airlifted out. He’ll spend the winter recovering, but he’ll be ok.
The medals were hand made out of brass by a local machinist. The one that they were giving to Tara is here: (photo courtesy of Jackie Baker)

Hey Congrats Allie and thanks for the update.
Isn't Lainey, like 16 or something? She also races cross and she looks sooo young!

yeah, she's really young and probably going to tear the hell out of the Jr. experts this year.
Soooo...she races cross, eh? That explains alot! I was out of gas at the 5th straight while she poured it on.
cross and 4x racers are crazy like that (wierdos) ;-)

Really bummer I missed this!
Sand Hill is sooooooooo close to my house, I ride by it on my road bike all the time.
I guess I need to get back in the swing of paying attention to what
is going on in the Bella Nation.
Thanks Allie, sorry we weren't there to cheer you on!
