I am going to ride the Tour de Cure Brighton on June 5th. Would any of you be interested in riding this event as a team? We can take it at a nice leisurely pace... Last edited on Fri Jan 15th, 2010 09:00 pm by Diannalr

| Excellent! I think this would be an excellent opportunity for all the Bellas to get together! It would also be a good opportunity to have a Michigan Bella photo taken. Last edited on Sat Jan 16th, 2010 01:43 pm by Diannalr

| That's a great idea, Dianna! Can you please post more information as it becomes available? (I am planning to be in Finland that weeki, so won't be able to make this, but I hope our teamies can! I'll wear flair on June 5th, though!) Last edited on Mon Jan 18th, 2010 01:54 pm by kzoo_swmmr

Finland! What a Bummer. We should all go to Finland so you won't be lonesome.
Finland sounds like a wonderful place to visit.

Calling all Michigan Bellas!
The tour is in just about 8 weeks. I would love for all of us to get together and get acquainted! (And get a good photo or two.)
The ride is June 5th and they offer multiple routes and distances. (For both road and mountain bike). I did the 50 mile road route today with a group of friends. It is honestly a spectacular ride. It rambles through some absolutely beautiful country roads.
Who's in??? (Make sure you register under team Velo Bella!)

I wish I could join in but I will be out of town that weekend. Maybe another race can bring us all together.

I would love to, but I have to check and see if I am out of town. I am interested in the trying to do the route sometime regardless of whether I am able to do the tour or not.

I would be in if there are some options for mountain bikers - I don't currently own a road bike. How does the registration work? Do we each sign up for individual race legs?
I actually live in the Brighton area so it would be right in my neighborhood!

I haven't actually done the digging myself, but I believe you do have the option (during registration) to select the type of ride and length.
If you do register, lets make sure we meet!!!

Here is an added incentive to ride...
I have in my possession some very swanky Velo Bella water bottles that I can give away to anyone riding with us.

Did some digging and found out there are 3 options for mountain bikers... a 5, 9, and 14 mile option. When you register you can choose these specific course lengths. The mountain bike leg will be at Brighton Rec on the Torn Shirt and Murray Lake loops.

Hello there Bellas!
Today, I put the word out to the rest of the Bellas that Alison and I will be riding as Team Velo Bella at the Tour de Cure on June 5th under the "non profit" section of the Bella boards. Wish us luck that we have great weather and safe travels!
If you wish to donate to either of us, our team page is here: http://tinyurl.com/TeamVeloBella
Thanks a bella-zillion! There is still time to join us if you wish! (wink wink)

Success!
Both Alison and I successfully finished the Tour de Cure! We also had what my husband likes to call "Dianna weather". I've always told him that I can "will" nice weather, and that is exactly what happened. The rain held out for the entire ride!
Alison and I both agreed that we were tired and actually didn't linger too long after the ride. She had a very challenging mountain bike course, and I had other issues. The story is below...
I get to the ride and unpack: my bike, my son's carrier, his cooler and his blankie. I continue my pre-ride preparation by making sure he is comfortable. I put on my cycling shoes, lock the car, go to my bike and realize....I have left the attachment that will hook my son's carrier to my bike on my OTHER bike. OH NO!!! I'm doing the math in my head...40 minutes home...40 minutes back... I think for a few more brief seconds and realize it is not a total wash. If I left at THAT moment I would be back in time to complete the 10 mile ride that starts at 10:30! So...into the car everything goes and I speed off.
An hour and some later I am back to the Tour, completely unpacked, and heading to the start. Phew!
The ride began pleasantly enough until *snap*. What? My chain broke about 3 miles into the ride. Sag was there immediately and I told them I was GOING to fix this chain and finish the ride. He gave me a sideways glance and said, "well, ok....". I took out a link and fixed the chain thanks to my handy multi-tool. Phew! Off I rode with Matthew in an attempt to catch the group.
Ah, the wind in my face again. The group was surprised to see me and I was happy to see them. A few more miles and another *snap*. Really? Seriously? I pull off and again the SAG is there in an instant. Now I'm just irritated! He said, "Are you sure you don't want a ride?". I replied, "Not a chance in heck"! He looked at me sideways again and said, "gosh, you are really hard core". Secretly I felt a lot of pride in that statement.
I fixed the chain again and we were off. However, this time I felt I needed to minimize the time I had on the route so I took the fork in the road and headed back to the start/finish.....unscathed this time!
Lesson learned: Don't take a bike out when you haven't ridden or done maintenance on it in 5 years!
All in all it was a fabulous time. I was finally able to meet Alison who is just lovely! Sure hope we can do a ride together soon!Attachment: Alison and Dianna crop.jpg (Downloaded 9 times)
