Hi Bellas.

Looks like I may be getting a new mountain bike from Santa this year. The only question is- which one???

The guys I know all LOVE their 29ers. Anyone out there with an opinion otherwise?

Also, I am playing with the idea of carbon. The only concern is I fall down. A lot. Is carbon a bad idea? I keep reading that carbon is almost as tough as aluminum, but I KNOW I'm going to crash it. Is it too risky?

I'm almost definitely going to be getting a Specialized. I'm thinking of an Epic 29er, or a Stumpjumper FSR. Does anyone have any experience with either of those?

Thanks in advance!

Whitney

What exciting news!!!!

I personally don't love 29ers b/c I am short (5'4") and find that the geometry is sort of funky for someone my size.

As for whether or not to get carbon - I think you will be fine! The bikes are pretty tough - and if you can get a full suspension MTB at around 26lbs, you will be super happy riding uphill:)

I don't have a Specialized (I have an Ibis Mojo SL), but my hubby and friends have ridden Specialized a lot over the years. As for which one - I would recommend test riding them. If possible - take them both out to the trails you would be riding - then you can really get a feel for the bike.

My final thoughts...get full suspension! I had two MTBs for awhile (Moots hard-tail and my Mojo)...and I always went for the Mojo. I found that I was much less fatigued on technical trails, and more comfortable over all. So I sold the Moots:).

Shopping for a new MTB is soooo much fun!!! Happy trails!

Natasha

Whitney,

Santa probably already has your mtn bike in his sleigh but I think you'll be fine with carbon. It does seem everybody loves the 29er's. Have fun Jen
