I was wondering if anyone could help me with this. I'm planning my fall 'cross season expenses and I was figuring out how much a UCI license cost. Ever since they announced a USGP race would be held in Louisville (about 2 hours from my home), I set the goal to get fast enough to enter the race and "not embarrass myself". We don't get a lot of national-class events in the midwest, and we may not have another for a while, so I didn't want to miss the opportunity. Basically, if I can not be shot off the back off the pack in the first five minutes I'll be happy. Anyway, I need a UCI license to enter and I just want to clarify before I buy something I can't use.
I'm on the USA cycling website and they have a "International Rider" option for $90 and you can either check "mountain primary" or "road primary". Is this what I need to buy to enter UCI sanctioned 'cross races? And I assume it doesn't matter which "primary" box I check, since you can use either road or mountain bike domestic licenses. Can anyone out there who's done this before help me out?
Thanks,
Lindsay

| I don't believe you need the UCI license unless you plan to race in the Elite class. Otherwise, a cross license is included when you buy a USAC road or mtn. license.

Hi Lindsay!
I don't know the answer to your question, but I'll see you at the UCI race!

Monica,
Are you going to the ones in Cincinatti on Oct 13&14? I was actually thinking of trying to race in the elite class depending on how my first couple of races go. It's still a toss-up. Last year the women's elite race only had 10 girls, so everyone who entered got UCI points. There were some local A racers that raced elite and did okay, so that's how I came to the conclusion that it might be doable. Unless, of course, the field is much more stacked this year.

Ooooh la la! Didn't know about that one. Cinci isn't t-o-o far away!
I'm planning to be in Lousville, and also in Davisburg (Michigan) for the Sept 22/23 UCI race weekend. Let's call Cinci a "maybe" until I sort out our crazy cross schedule and our growing cross addicition. With 1 or 2 races every weekend from Sept. to Dec., we want to do them all & right now it seems like a great idea! But I'm not sure my super-hero powers will hold up through 4 months of endorphin swings (high on the weekends, rock bottom on Mondays), muddy race weekends, road trips, bike washing, and trying to keep jusst a teensy tiny tiny bit of work/life balance! Then again, what else am I going to do with all that energy???
This site has a link to the race flyer for Davisburg:

I thought about doing the Michigan UCI races earlier in the year, but I don't think I'm going to. I'm pretty much just doing Ohio Valley Cyclocross Series races this season, and I will probably keep it to the 9 race minimum. Luckily, the Cinci and Louisville races are part of that series. My first race will be Sept 16, so I think I will need more time to practice before I attempt a "big" race. I was just realizing this morning how busy September and October are going to be.
I'm looking forward to getting to meet some "real live" other bellas this season though. Plus, my killer new skinsuit is just screaming to be worn.

Hi Lindsay!
Did you race Louisville ?!?!?!? If you did, tell me all about it! I didn't make it (and may not make any more races this season ) b/c I sprained my ankle the week before.
Living vicariously through others' race reports (FOR NOW)! Monica

Hi Monica! (and everyone else)
I did make it to Louisville, but only on Sunday. However, I have not had a race I felt like reporting so far this season. My early season hopes of stepping up my game enough to qualify as elite class pack-filler didn't work out too well, so there was no UCI license necessary. I raced the 3/4 class in Louisville and didn't do well at all. I fell off the back at the first little grinder hill after the barriers and proceeded to spend the next 25 minutes crashing in sand, slick corners, and tripping on stairs. I did manage to get 11th out of 12, so I wasn't last at least.
The good news is that I got to meet Alex and a bunch of the elite Bellas and had a really good time watching the best racers in the country. So it was a good day, except for about 30 minutes of it.
Lindsay
P.S. Sorry to hear about the ankle. Hope it gets better soon!
