I've noticed some people using salt or electrolyte supplements for the longer and hotter rides...I've tried them a couple times and noticed they did help with fatigue and also soreness afterwards...
Does anyone have any favorites? Or do we have any discounts setup?

As far as using salts and electrolytes go from my experience the race factors of heat, distance, and intensity will change the results for everyone.
You will hear some people say "XX works great for me". They might not require the same level of these electrolytes as you and the product may not work. So you have to try them to see how your body is going to work with them.
I used "sport legs" as they were a sponsor for me in the past and they did work well in short road races for reducing cramping. I tend to cramp a lot when there is climbing involved but never when its flat. Sport legs is not sodium though, its Magnesium and I don't know how it works.. But you will see it added to lots of sport drinks now adays. I think the other items I was eating or drinking while riding was supplying me with the sodium that this was not giving me.
http://www.ultrafit-endurance.com/elca.html has a few for example.
I had similar results with Enervite tabs and Gu2O mix for water. Again they worked well at reducing cramps.
Interestingly enough "pedialite and small pinch of salt" works really good in very hot temperatures and mixes pretty well with drinks, they even have no flavor option if you don't like any sweetness.
The key is the mix with Sodium and potassium.
The body uses potassium and Sodium, where the potassium resides at cellular level the Sodium is at fluid level (in a nutshell). From what I gather If you have good sodium levels in the system the body will retain the potassium. (maybe Soni can verify ?)
If you tend to cramp a lot, reduce your salt/sodium intake and increase your potassium intake (with eating fruits and veggies- see info below too) while "off" the bike this helps the body to work more efficiently when it comes to the time when you need the salts.. It worked very well for me in endurance mountain biking.
Something that works well for some endurance athletes is to bring foods like potatoes (ask jen jen). She pre salts them and it insures she is taking in salt even if she is not drinking enough.
**I will post the Velo Bella secret formula we use in the NRC events on the private forum later today. This works really well for most races.
* as a side note, pottasium supplimentation like any supplimentation should be done carefully and with the advise of your doctor. Eating healthy fruits and vegitables will naturally provide potassium without the use of pills.

My husband swears by Succeed Caps. He used to cramp all the time when he raced motorcycles and when he began racing MTB. One of the expert racers that we know told him about Succeed Caps, and since he has begun taking them, his cramps have been very minimal. I believe they have more sodium in them than Hammer Nutrition's electrolytes. They are also less expensive than other supplements. Here's a link to their website:

Succeed caps is very well known in endurance racing. They have been very involved in 24 hour and race across america teams.
I think you can find them in the link I posted.

IIRC, potassium supplementation can be dangerous and should only be done under doc supervision.
could make your heart do the hokey pokey or something...

Yes you are correct. (I will edit my note on it above to clarify)
Potassium comes naturally in the foods that we eat.
This is a good resourse for info on potassium:

two things have worked well for me:
1. Endurolytes from Hammer Nutrition: http://www.e-caps.com
2. I've found that Sport Legs work well too (not sure where to get besides my LBS).
I feel weak. My legs hurt. I take two Endurolytes. I am revived temorarily. I ward off my cramping. And I long for a cheeseburger.

You probably got the burst of energy from the maltodextrin and L-Tyrosine in ecaps even though its small does.
Body builders use that L-Tyrosine to reduce fatigue and get an extra burst of energy.
I tried those for a while too. And they do the job as well.

Performance Bike is carrying the Sports Legs now. I noticed them on their website last week, and they were on sale as well.

I'm cheap and creative, so I just grab the little to-go salt packets when I visit a local deli and keep them in my purse. I'll eat the salt packet at my leisure, taken with lots of water of course, whenever I have lost a lot of sodium to sweating. I'll know I need it if I have salt marks on my cycling clothing, or if I feel a little dehydration headache coming on, or pretty much anytime I've been out hammering in the heat. The salt is great added to lots of things - yummy tomatoes, a baked potato, watermelon, or just ask Fitzy, she'll tell you I take it "raw."
I lose a lot of sodium to sweating, but personally I like to use my time off the bike to manage my intake of supplements. I take in gels and sports drinks while I ride/race, but I don't think that extra sodium on top of that is any more effective than replenishing it as part of my regular nutrition habits.

As the replies to this post show, there are lots of commercial caplets / tablets for electrolyte replacement. When comparing the different products, take a look at the labeling & compare the mg of sodium (and/or potassium, depending on the product) per tablet. Different brands have different amounts of 'filler' vs. actual NaCl.
My husband and I both use & like SUCCEED for longer hot-weather races. For long training rides, though, I combine some SUCCEED tablets with munching on pretzels (the saltier the better) throughout the ride. (It's a nice break from sweet tasting energy "food" & makes me want to drink more too....a good thing.) Either way, with a little extra electrolyte replacement, we find that we perform better, the nasty post-exertion headaches stay away, and we don't end up feeling exhausted all day...so the recovery beers taste that much better.

cliff block's margarita with salt flavor (2xsalt) are deliciously salty!!
i also LOVE carrot juice in between laps of endurance races and it has tons of electrolytes- both sodium and potassium... as well as carbs and vitamins.

its good to see the string going again..I've had time to use the Sport Legs which is vitamin D, Calcium, and Magnesium...there isn't any sodium or potassium listed. I don't sweat alot so I tend to think I am on the right track with this product versus the salty things that haven't seemed to help me much. I'm sure its good but not what I am seeming to need. Everyone is different.. I have not had any cramping problems...but just being very sore afterwards and not recovering well..or if I try a new excercise like golf, running, I get so sore. This product has helped alleviate that quite a bit and also help with the fatigue on long rides...I have also added more calcium daily supplementation which helps alot also I think (also helps PMS and moods). I am also using more OS product which seems also to be a good product for me on recovery.
