Hey Ladies,

I got word that we wanted to have the California training camp in San Luis Obispo as we have the past few years. So here's the scoop:

January 16th, 17th, and 18th. It's a holiday weekend for many of us, so there will be a ride on Monday.

The Sand Hotel (where everyone stayed last year) has agreed to a rate of $89/ night for our group. They are currently holding a block of 10 double rooms for us for the night of the 15th (Friday), 16th, and 17th. All rooms are non-smoking. If you would like to make a reservation please call the hotel at 800-441-4657 to make a reservation. Tell them you are with Velo Bella Cycling and if you have any problems ask to speak with Jason (he's the one that set up the rooms). The address is 1930 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401 (http://www.sandssuites.com). Please make your reservations soon. They will start releasing the unbooked rooms starting the first week of January.

I haven't figured out the dining situation yet as it depends on how big the group is.

The rides will be pretty similar to last year I assume, with options to do shorter distances for those that prefer it. Tyler and Barrett are going to help lead the rides again and you'll probably see some other SLO Nexus riders in the group to help everybody get home safely.

Please let me know if you plan on attending and how many you're bringing with you (Bella Fellas, etc.) so I can make the rest of the arrangements. Thank you.

If you have any questions you can reach me at emilykurze@sbcglobal.net or by phone at 805-459-2326.

I look forward to seeing you all soon. Sue kindly asked me not to break any limbs this year, so i'll do my best and hope to get to ride with everyone this year.

Don't forget to make your reservations and RSVP!

-Emily

Hey Emily,

FYI, I'm in for Sat-Mon.  I'll be rooming with the Kats (Linda, Erika, Levon, Daisy), no hubby or dogs this year.

Another few questions ladies:

Tyler (Girl_Ryan's man) has generously offered to lead the rides for camp. (I'm only able to ride short distances due to an injury this fall so I'm greatful for his help.)

He'd like to know if you liked the format of last year, with one ride per day as one big group with turnaround points for those that wanted to do less distance? The other option is to have different rides of different distances which would split us all up.

I think he's planning on doing a longer ride on Saturday (for those that choose to do the full distance, there are shorter options don't worry!), a skill session/crit practice on Sunday morning with a shorter climb ride after, and a shorter easy ride on Monday out somewhere for coffee. Sound good?

Feel free to give feedback it is your camp. :)

Also, do we all want to dine together every night? I have been holding off on making food arrangements until the head count stabilized. Please let me know your preferences.

Thanks Bellas, see you all soon.

Emily

p.s. if any one needs additional help or has questions about the area, feel free to contact me, i've lived in San Luis Obispo a long time, and am happy to help. 805-459-2326 or emilykurze@sbcglobal.net

Last year we did one big ride on Saturday and some people broke off early.  At the end of the ride, the group felt it would be better to have more than one ride--not only for different distances, but for different paces.  I'll go with whatever, but that's what the feeling was last year.

I'll be staying with friends in the area so likely won't be able to attend the dinner.

I'm okay w/ one long ride on Sat if there are shorter options.  The longer ride on one of the days last year did break up, with people peeling off early at various points.  I think it would be nice to all start out as a group with "option" points for rides of various lengths after we have ridden together for a while.  A lot depends on what people call a long ride.   Personally 60-70 miles is a long ride for me, but I would enjoy doing it.

As for dinner, I would be able to do one night, probably Saturday, as I am staying w/ my mother in PR.

Many cudos for taking the lead on this.  I'm looking forward to riding with all of the Bellas.

I really liked every aspect of last years plans.  Also, each ride group had a leader (since most are not from that area), with options to peel off.  I think riding as a group is a great way to meet the others who I've only met via the Forum....you know, I'm all about the social aspect of camp!  :-)

I'm with Marsha....60+miles is alot for me, especially if you toss in Perfumo again!  :-)

Lets just focus on one night as a planned dinner together, Saturday.

Also, I know that Andrea is not on this forum very much. Can someone contact her and let her know?

From what I can see, it looks as if there is a 60%-80% chance of rain this weekend in San Luis......do the weather-people in your area, have the same opinion?

Weather Underground is showing 20% on Sat and 40% on Sun and 50% on Mon.

National Weather Service says slight chance on Sat and chance on Sun and Mon.

Consistent rain does cancel. I say we take a look at the forecast on Thursday morning and decide. If rain is likely, we can postpone to some other weekend. If its still only light chance (because I am an optimist) I say we go for it.

Hey gang,

Sadly, I'm not gonna make it. Not weather related so much as travel ...I'm still in Denver and have to travel for work next week too so.....just not enough home time.

Dang it anyway :)

It looks like the exact timing of the storms is a bit up in the air still.  Friday and Saturday look like they should be dry.  Sunday a storm should be coming in, but it isn't clear on the timing.  We could get lucky and be dry in the AM.  Monday looks like it will likely be stormy.

I don't want to make the call myself. If enough people still want to go, then we're on. But if too many people can't/won't make it then its worth rescheduling.

I think we'll be good for rides on Sat and Sun. Monday might be iffy. But if thats the case, thats fine for me. Its better than the forecast here which is about 100% on Sunday.

So, I think its worth it. We'll get some good riding and miles in on Saturday for sure. And I bet if we start early on Sun, we'll get some good riding in then too. Rainy Sunday afternoon (of which there is only a 50% chance) can be for wine tasting (or surfing!)

I'm still planning on it

Since I don't have to travel. I'm still in. Let's plan on Saturday and Sunday then, and skip Monday? We'll meet at the hotel parking lot at 9am on Saturday and we'll play Sunday by ear.

Ladies, let me know if you're still in so I can make dinner reservations for Saturday night.

Thanks, see you soon.

Hi All,

Dinner for tonight is at 5:30 (i know it's early but that way the party can last longer right?) at an italian restaurant. I've asked for the whole back patio. Vieni Vai is at 690 Higuera street. From the hotel go down Monterey street toward downtown. Turn left on Chorro. Turn right on Higuera. Its on the right hand side just after the stoplight at Broad st.

Please spread the word to all the other Bellas.

My cell is 805-459-2326. -Emily
