I have a question-

If we hold a group ride where we invite people from other teams, do we need them to sign Velo Bella waivers? I BELIEVE we're covered for liability as long as we start in a public place, but I could be wrong.

Anyone???

You are not covered if you invite people from outside the team. If you want coverage, you need to request an event permit from USA Cycling. There are permits specifically for non competitive events like training rides and clinics. There is a fee for such a permit I believe and you need all attendees to sign a waiver.

That's WAYYYY too involved.

I'm just thinking of regular, weekly group rides where non-Bellas are welcome (like husbands, people from other teams, etc.). For example, we did a ride yesterday where three husbands/boyfriends and a girl from another team came. I wasn't sure if they needed to sign waivers to ride with us.

Thanks.

thats the process if you want protection. Otherwise, its best not to claim the ride as a bella organized ride. (Thats why we have that lame CYA language in the ride posting)

Hmmm. Ok- I will look into getting a permit from USA Cycling. However, we're hoping to do weekly runs as well this summer (lots of triathletes down here), and I want to make sure we're covered. What about if we have all non-Bellas sign one of these multi-waivers. I imagine there will be lots of friends, husbands, co-workers coming to these events, and I want to make it as simple, and legal, as possible.

The waivers really do little to no good, so they are a waste of time. and might even hurt as they "prove" that you organized the ride. If you want protection you need to get a permit.

Best option is to just keep it casual. Call the ride something else, like after the shop or coffee shop it starts at. Let people know its a casual ride and anyone is welcome to join and that the ride has no affiliation with Velo Bella. I'll go look for the wording we use....

Here's the wording

Rides posted on this forum are for information purposes only. Bicycle riding is an inherently dangerous sport. Many of these rides are open to the public and on open roads and Velo Bella does not organize, sponsor, nor assume any liability for your participation in these rides. We also do not assume liability if you choose to just sit on the couch and read about these rides instead of trying them out. Be brave, accept responsibility for risks, and get out there. :)

Thanks Sabine. I'll copy that onto our Yahoo Page, and include it on all the emails about what we're doing.

I'll look into the permits and let you know what I find out.

THANK YOU!!!!!
