I'm Courtney from Sacramento, CA (permanently transplanted from Ohio). I was introduced to the cycling world a few years ago by my husband, who rides and races (road and cross) for a team here. (Who knew I would ever be attracted to a guy who shaves his legs?)
I picked up a great road bike about a year ago and I love it...but as nice as my husband and his teammates are, the thought of riding with them is a little terrifying, so I stick to taking pictures for the team website. I've been hitting the trails by myself, but it's getting a little lonely. (No matter how much I try to engage my iPod in a conversation, it just won't talk back!)
I'm definitely interested in joining as a recreational rider, but I'd love to get up the gumption to race one day (although I'm about to start my last year of grad school, so that probably won't happen until next summer). At this point, I'm more interested in using my bike to get fit and stay sane, not to mention as a cheap and responsible way to get around town (I commute to school and work on an older hybrid).
Hey Courtney! Sorry I didnt see this post earlier! But welcome!
We are happy to help in any way we can to help you get fit and sane (okay, we probably can't help in the sane part) and if/when you want to race, we'll help you with that too.
Have you met Yvette yet? She also lives in the Sac area and rides mtb alot.
