mood: accomplished (Washington County fairgrounds, Hillsboro, OR)
I was slow. I finished last or near-last.
[Update: actually, I did better than I thought! 67th out of 74 Beginner women.]
NOTE: 10/30/09: The same day that I shared this report here I also I entered it into a contest over at Cyclocross Magazine, and I won the first prize. However, in order to play by the rules I have had to remove the full post from this site and paste in a link to their site. So if you want to read the report in its entirety, please go here:

Great report, Beth! Wow, you've already started moving up the Cs in your first season. You should be very proud...especially with the high level of competition up there in the PacNW.
And the fact that you prioritized your frites/beer recovery snack is great.

Yay for mud indeed!
Um, Santa Cruz is right by the sea, right? So you should have all sorts of rain and damp air and stuff, to help make mud. Unless I'm totally missing something.
You've GOT to come try a race in Portland! Seriously, I am agitating for California Bellas to make a road trip for next year's Cross Crusade. Come on up!

Bring on the rain for these kids to have more fun [brave aren't they to waddle onto the course!]
This was our mud at yesterday's cross race in Fresno CA.
I haven't trained at all on the bike this season/year ... mostly running and swimming. But I couldn't pass up a Ladies $5 race with two cats this year! (A/B and C ... our group is actually growing). 7th out of 9 and had a blast. I never really care where I come in overall ... as long as I get a good squeal in as I go through the bogs!
I enjoy reading your post Beth ...

| The real accomplishment was that Beginner women's enrollment was so large this year that organizers ran out of numbers and had to start a new series in the 900's or something. THAT'S crazy!
