The season has started! So this year I’ve been working towards really focusing on Cyclocross. With the National Championships coming back to the West Coast up in Bend, Oregon in December, I have no excuse to slack off. Not that I’m a great racer or have mad technical skills, but just getting through a race is no longer enough. And so I’ve been running, MTB’ing, yoging, doing many crunches and riding the cross bike all summer. Still on the heavy side, I’m hoping this season will help me loose a few unwanted, but truly deliciously gained, pounds.

This season I’ll be racing Women’s B at CCCX, BASP, LARDP, Velo Promo, various others and of course Surf City Cyclocross series. That’s nonstop from now till Mid-January for a total of over 25 races and many double weekends!

My 1st race was on Saturday September 5th at Robertson Park in Livermore. I didn’t know what to expect and really wanted to use the race as a gauge to see where I was fitness wise. I was certainly surprised to find that I felt better and road better than I thought I would. The conditions were perfect, dry but cloudy & 59 degrees. The course was awesome and flowy (not like I remember from years ago with the dreaded stairs). Half the course was grass and the other half was sandy dirt piles (which I love). There was 1 dismount with 4 logs (which I couldn’t figure out how to ride till my last lap & running into Barb-on accident, of course:-) And even though I came in last in my category, I wasn’t last out of the group of women (it was an all-start) and I only got lapped by Barb who won the A’s. This was a really great accomplishment for me cuz the last few years I’ve been getting lapped (even twice) by most of the field when I raced the C category!

But the best thing was that I had a ton of fun, and I haven’t felt that in a long time!

So here I go, hopefully laughing my way through the cyclocross season!

You are way ahead of things with the running and yoga (I STILL haven't had more than a couple of Yoga sessions this summer/fall! Too many hours working! Ugh). Have a great time and be sure to write about it here.

BTW, Bend's not that far away, and if you come up the weekend before Nats you can race at the USGP Portland Cup, which is known for epic weather and huge, friendly crowds...

Sadly, I will not be going to Bend.
This year, the first night of Chanukah coincides with CrossNats.
Take lots of pix and share!
Cheers--Beth

Sounds like fun! I am going to do my second cross race in a few weeks. I did my first last season. I don't expect to do well, but I do hope to be smiling when I finish. :)

Good luck this season, and keep smiling!
