WOW!
Did we get lucky?!
Not only was it sunny, but I think the heavy rains of the day before washed (almost) all the mud away. And a (short) section was newly paved and oh-so-smooth.
OK, so it was kinda cold to start. But that allowed me to perform an advanced maneuver. Yes, I removed my vest while racing and put it in my back pocket. Well, I'd never done that before and I feel good knowing I can do it if I need to.
There was only 5 in our race. Two Reno Wheelwomen (Margaret & Darcy) and Joan from Cyclingsport, me & Sue. The Wheelwomen were talking about having enough girls to have upgrade points. You know what me & Sue were talking about......strategy, Bella Style!
So I did that attacky stuff as much as my little legs would let me and it seemed to be working to tire out the Wheelwomen a little bit. And then on the climb, Sue attacked at just the right moment about 500 meters from the line and kept it going strong and held her gap for the WIN!
That was fun.
Let's do it again next weekend.....

And Beth had a very close sprint for 2nd in the large cat 4 field. Great job!
Ryan was the only 2, so she raced with the Men 3s. I'm sure she taught them some more lessons.....
They can supply the details...

ditto to marsat's comments! so glad the weather behaved and y'all had a great time out there too
the SJ crit was a super fun course. i decided to beat myself over the head and entered the P1/2 race. It was all of the biggies (teams that is)...and I lasted for about 35 of the 50 minutes. A break never got away so the speed was fassstttttt. But totally had fun and got the racing bug going for the season!!!
And the snow?!?! there is tons of snow on the mtns around San Jose...I haven't ever seen that much before. it was beautiful!

| oops, just realized i forgot to say who won the wmn 1/2 crit - Laura Van Gilder got first - brooke miller 2nd or 3rd, and I think a colavita rider rounded out the top three. it was quite the sprint finale...

Soni is back on her attacking ways! The first time she attacked, the Reno gals took turns bringing her back, but it took almost 1/2 a lap to do it! They just couldn't bring Soni back. It was classic. I just sat on their wheels and smiled
Since there were only 5 of us, we took turns doing pulls and no other team really wanted to do anything but ride tempo. Cool. I can do that. Soni would keep attacking and I could see it was working! So, when she got caught, I would get to the front to cover any counter attacks ( there were none) and to keep the pace relaxed and steady to give Soni a chance to catch her breath and recover. I really wanted to counter attack (because it would have been so darn much fun), but knew I needed some sort of fresh legs for the finishing climb??
So, she once again took off right before the climb and the Reno girls were both looking at each other...who was going to chase????? Neither one wanted to!
I waited till the final two steep poppers at the end and did the ole' 3 minute VO2 max interval effort. But, it was Soni who set up the race by softened the legs of the gals so that I could get away.
Great fun and great racing with my teamies.
Beth and Ryan girl will need to write up their reports from their races

that is so COOL! love our teamwork...and so glad Soni is back to her attacking ways...too fun. Looking forward to next week when we can ramp up the attack squad!
while reviewing local newspapers, I found this article
Bunny Attacks Field of wildcats in Cantua-AP Cantua, California
Global warming has caused isolated weekend incidents of Bunny Attacks Coupled with a Lil Suenami destroying Wildcats' predatory instincts in Cantua. It is a known fact that animals can sense changes in weather patterns. Saturday's ominous weather patterns were no different. Birds scattered to protected areas, while bunnies attacked a field of wild cats in early anticipation of the incoming Suenami. Local residents say it was a band of bunnies, while conflicting witnesses say it was one lone bun. According to local weather expert Beth Welliver, "It was a self preservation instinct brought on by the barimetric pressures of the little known phenomena known as Suenami.."

Lily - you crack me up! Hilarious.
I loved when my big ol' group of 4's would meet the little group of 3's each time out on the road. There would be Soni, crushing it just ahead of the the struggling pack, with Suenami comfortably sitting in the back. And I also got to see Ryan out there mixing it up with a group of men, who all looked a little tired.
As for my race...it was 51.5 miles of sitting in the pack in zone 2 followed by an all out zone 5 surge up the last climb. I didn't have any teammies. In fact, besides the 7 Velo Girls in the field, no one else had any teammies, so no one really tried anything. I thought about getting a little more active after the overpass on the last stretch, but it was so windy by that time that I didn't want to be anywhere near the front. So I sat in at the back of the pack until we started up the climb. At the 1km sign one girl jumped so I grabbed on her wheel and stuck to it like glue. She slowed a bit over the 2nd to last climb, then surged just before the last uphill to the finish. I ramped up and jumped a little after the 200m sign with a SugarCRM girl right next to me. We pulled away a bit, but I was actually blocking the wind for the SurgarCRM rider beside me, so she was able to pull ahead just at the finish. It was a drag race for the last 50m and she nipped me by maybe an inch at the finish line. So second place an a t-shirt for me!

some reports also say that the bunn(ies) had valentine flair but that was chocked up to drunken witnesses and so not included in the newspaper reports
let's hope for dry weather next weekend cuz i just gotta race snelling with you lilly!

The weather was great and the course was super smooth which was nice I did the Mens 3 which was a great time and they were surprisingly active on the first lap which was fun so I played w/them a bit on the 1st lap knowing that I may not last the entire race w/all their big accelerations which were taking their toll on my legs. I dont have that kind of power right now, but it was awesome training and the guys were all super cool to me too which was fun I got dropped on the hill but ended up riding the rest of the next lap w/Tim Loper (Tracy's husband) who is just a machine... he was trying to catch back on the Masters 1/2/3 race from getting a flat so I got some good motorpacing in as well Good times! I did not do the entire 3rd lap and cut it short when Tim pulled off so I called it a day with 2.5 laps of solid training.
Pine flat: I decided to just go ride up there that day while the boys were racing... It was freezing and I did not see any other girls around the parking lot when I got there so I decided to just ride which ended up being super fun. Good Job Liz and Soni for doing the race
Dinuba: Well it was just flat out pouring so I decided that I would not do this one either... it was really coming down and it takes a lot for me to not race a crit when I am already there. I watched the SLO Nexus Cat 4/5 boys in the morning (the clouds stopped for their race) and they ended up dominating the race and taking the win which was awesome to watch... then we all went and had pancakes
