The 2012 Velo Bella Clothing order is now officially OPEN!

Before you order, please take a few moments and read through the information below.  There are many important changes for 2012.

Our 2012 cycling kits will be made by Voler.  We were all impressed with their quality, selection and customer service last year and are happy to be working with them again!

Please note that there have been several changes for the 2012 Voler line:
1. There are Women’s Vests and Jackets!!!!! (Excuse me while I happy dance around the office)
2. They have completely re-done their triathlon clothing. I have yet to see it, but am hoping to have a “fit party” in San Diego to check it out. If you aren’t in San Diego, you should call Voler’s customer service with any questions. At this point, I plan to try a triathlon clothing only order with Squadra in February. However, this may be another alternative if you prefer Voler’s fit.
3. They have redone the material on the higher end shorts. Again- I have yet to see them, but have been assured we’ll like them ever more than last year’s version.

There are two order links- the Black background order and the White background order. Due to many requests, we have added several items to the White order. However, if you see something that you would like in white that is NOT on the white order, please let me know! As long as we meet minimums, we can have it made.

Minimums- There is a 15 item minimum in each category (short sleeves, long sleeves, bottoms, etc). As long as we order 15 items in each category it will run.

Voler will be taking orders from now until midnight on October 7th. This is an absolute deadline. They close the store and start cutting clothes right away. We may attempt another order early next summer, but no promises! If you’d like something, you should try to get it now!

The order will be shipped to me by the end of November. I will do everything in my power to have it shipped to individuals by December 7th. That means that you SHOULD have your clothing before Christmas.

VERY, VERY IMPORTANT!!! While the 2012 jersey colors and design will be similar to last year’s, there will be significant changes in sponsors featured on the jersey.  For that reason, if you would like to take advantage of sponsorship deals in 2012, you will need a  current jersey, skinsuit or tritop.  Several sponsors are now requiring a list of all official Velo Bella racers before they approve discounts.  We will be giving them a list based on who ordered 2012 clothing.

We are still in the process of finalizing a deal with the company that we hope will be our major sponsor (bikes, helmets, shoes, etc) in 2012, so we aren’t able to give out details regarding their deal yet.  If this deal does go through (and at this point we believe it will), it will be absolutely fantastic.  As soon as we can send out the details, we will.

At this point we can tell you that Pedros, Cateye, and Reflect Sports have already committed to sponsoring us again in 2012.  Best Bike Zone, a retailer based in Paseo Robles with an online store, is excited to be a new Velo Bella sponsor this year.

Below is the ordering information! Have fun shopping!!!

and to clarify, I believe that the minimums (like short sleeve tops) includes both black and white as one minimum (Whitney can verify).

have they changed anything with the pads this year?

they had talked before about making the front end of the trilogy thinner, they changed pad placement a bit last year......

will it all be identical or not this year?

(letting out a little squeel) THANK YOU WHITNEY for doing the coordinating...time for me to go shopping!
I can't wait to hear about the SHOE sponsor!  I need a new pair of cycling shoes....whoo hooo!  Happy dance....

Question on the Tri Top - is it super short?  I have a short torso, but have found that tri tops are too short for me even...

Thanks again

Fingers are super double crossed for this sponsor. It looks really good, but these things sometimes hit unexpected bumps. As soon as we know for sure, we'll be announcing it all over the place!

I haven't seen the tri tops yet. We're doing a fit party in San Diego a week from tomorrow, and I'd be happy to measure it for you. Just email me with the size you normally wear, and I'll check it out.

Here's some info I got from Voler today about this order:

1.  The new Estrella Pad.  Here's what Kim White (an ex-Bella) who designed it has to say:

The Estrella LD pad is made from an advanced 3D pad sculpting process; a single piece of closed-cell foam is shaved away to create a seamless pad with smooth transitions between thicknesses. Estrella is a highly anatomical pad that allows for the perfect thickness in pressure zones without unnecessary transitions and molding. The pad is perforated for breathability and covered with an abrasion minimizing anti-bacterial fabric. The pad geometry was designed specifically for the female anatomy.

Basically, it's a 3D shape instead of just a bunch of pieces of foam being glued together and covered with a piece of fabric. It's from this really cool company that is breaking new ground in pad manufacturing. To give you an idea, they are being used for the Leopard-Trek team and also make pads for LG. The front is a little taller so you get a little more modesty up front, if you know what I mean!  The way this one is made, the transition from padding to no padding is SO seamless that you cannot even feel the edge. I also made the shape different so that the padding geometry will fit more people. It's a little wider through the legs but that is so that you don't get rubbing at your bikini line. It moves that transition out of sensitive areas.

2.  Shorts design and fit:

All new FS items. WAY more flattering. A little snugger fit for the regular fabric and a half size smalller fit for our NEW upgrade fabric- FORZA HC (high compression). It's a higher lycra content fabric so your stuff will be snugger and stay snugger for longer. It's very opaque also. Yoga style waistband on the women's FS shorts!! Also, the inseam is a little shorter- 8" for size medium, since I really thought our shorts were too long.

Hope that helps people choosing their items!

Just got back from the San Diego fit party and I thought I would pass on this information. I usually wear a Small or a Medium. In everything that I tried on I was a solid Medium (the smalls were WAY too small). I hope that this helps someone who has similar sizing issues.

Thanks to Whitney, Pink Peloton (Rachelle?) and Voler for putting on the party, it was a lot of fun and a lot of help.

You rock Vicki:P

A few things I noticed-
1) The tri tops are long! They actually covered my belly- amazing!!! They also do NOT have a built in bra.

2) The women's specific jackets are great. The thermal one ran a little big (which I guess is normal- they expect you to wear lots other stuff under it).

3) I definitely agree with Vicki about the new shorts- they run a little small. The rep said it was because of the new compression fabric. Otherwise, really liked them. The went from a 10 panel last year to a 7 panel this year, which means fewer seams. That's a good thing.

4) Several women tried on the men's jerseys. Those with long torsos seemed to prefer them. I'm going to try to get them added to the order form today if anyone is interested.

THANK YOU PINK PELOTON!!! The wine, beer, and munchies were fabulous!!!

I ordered a medium top and a small short last year. This year I ordered both in medium. So I think the tops are similar sizing but the shorts are a little bit smaller. It's probably like Whitney said, the shorts are smaller because they don't stretch as much with the compression material.

I tried getting ahold of Voler directly about getting some samples out here in Colorado, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Can anyone who was at the Pink Peloton evening tell me how the kit fits compared to the Primal shorts and or the older LG stuff? I'm a medium in the Primal shorts and a small in the LG jerseys...

Thanks,
Julia

Who did you contact at Voler?

How does anything compare to the PW shorts?!  Those things were so misshapen and oddly sized that makes it like comparing gogo shorts to cycling shorts!

I wear the same size in Voler jerseys (small) as I did in the LG.  I have always worn a small Voler short also, but wore a medium in LG shorts.  However, the Voler shorts this year were a snug small for me, which I prefer to loose, but with their new sizing this year, I am thinking of a medium.  The higher grade short especially they are saying is about a 1/2 size smaller due to the extra compression.  Not quite so much with the regular short.

I was not at the sizing party, though.

Thanks for the reply, Bunny.

I was able to speak with Mary Ann at Voler today. She was super helpful.

I actually quite liked the Primal shorts (2nd round), despite all the complaints. They fit me very well, although they are just a tad long for my liking. I wear them all the time and 2 years later they are still comfy for me and the pad feels like it's brand new.

Mary Ann recommended a small short based on my measurements (5'8", 125-130 depending on brownie consumption), but we came to the conclusion that, like you said Bunny, particularly with the more compression-like shorts I might be more comfortable with a medium. She said definitely a small with the other, more traditional style short though.

About the jerseys, do you happen to know a length comparison from LG to Voler for the small? I'm a tad torso-ey.

Hopefully this is helping others too...

Thanks for the help!

Here are some of my notes on the fitting at Pink Peloton yesterday:

Jerserys (Cycling):
1) There are 2 cuts you can choose from: Race & Club. Race is your typical racers jersey cut. Club is designed for the women with curves or guns. There's more room in the chest, hips and arms. If you have found the race cut for most jerseys a bit too snug, Club is the cut for you.

2) Sizing: I found the sizing to be VERY consistent across all tops (jerseys, vests, jackets, etc). I have always worn a small (Primal, LG), and again I will wear a small with Voler. I like my jerseys to be snug but not constricting. If you like your jerseys looser, size up one size or go Club cut.

3) Material: SQ Pro - standard jersey material. Feels good. Medium stretch. GeoTherm - fleece lined for added warmth. Very comfy, Very stretchy. For me the GeoTherm long sleeve jersey fits well as a small, or stretches nicely over a small jersey. The Medium would be loose without a jersey underneath, but fit fine with layers underneath. Windshell - Very thin, lightweight material. Super women's cut on the vests. Sizing is consistent. If you wear a Small jersey, you wear a small vest (fits well with a jersey). Denali - Heavier insulated vest material. Super nice if you want an insulated vest.

Shorts (Cycling):
1) Materials: Triton - standard lycra cycling fabric. Similar to last year's material. Forza HC - Higher compression, super stretchy material. Very comfortable. Chamois: Diamante - Standard pad. Good, but not top of the line. Estrella - The latest & greatest. Looks pretty cool & comfy. If you do a lot of long or intense riding, or have issues with chaffing, then you may want to upgrade.

2)I tried on the Forza HC shorts in Small & Medium. I typically wear a Medium short (LG). Last year I wore smalls from Voler in their Triton fabric. I could not fit my hips into the seams in the new Forza HC small short. The Medium fit snug & feel fantastic. The material is super stretchy without being thin & showing bumps in places bumps should not be showing. So, while I did not have a chance to try on their standard Triton shorts, I can say the Forza HC runs 1/2 size small so size up if you're on the edge.

3) SKINSUITS: Size down a wee bit. While Voler has indicated that you can combine pieces (ie, small top, medium shorts), I found that with a little finesse, the Small Forza HC skin suit fits perfectly. I have a short torso and a good pair of hips. Because there is no waistband, I was able to get the waist seam over my hips and liked the fit. Feel wicked fast.

Tri kit:
1) TOP: Fits 1/2 size big. I could go XS or S.
2) SHORTS: Important! The Forza HC shorts are funky. Great in the legs, but everyone agreed the waist was too big and too low cut. If you like low cut, it may work for you. The Triton fabric was cut higher and the waist band was normal. I would not recommend the Forza HC tri shorts without trying them on first. The Triton is the way to go (even though the fabric is not as comfy).

Please let me know if you have questions or want to add to this!

Happy Shopping!
Raja

wow, raja, thanks for all the details!

that is consistent with what voler said on the shorts--they said the forza would be 1/2 size smaller.  the triton won't be a 1/2 size smaller, but will be "snugger"--but that is a bit vague.

i'm going with medium forzas

Julia - We miss you out here!

Length of the jersey is consistent with other brands. It's a hair longer than LG (which was short even for my tiny torso), but similar to Primal. The fit itself is more "fitted" than Primal but less snug than LG.

Forza HC fabric feels amazing on.... except the tri shorts.

Long-time Bella but in stealth mode. Wish there were more Bellas in the Sacramento area!

Anyway, happy to get in on this order and was wondering about the zippers. Those who tried on jerseys, did you try hidden vs full-length zippers? Sometimes the full-length can "puff and crinkle," depending upon the weight of the jerseys. Any thoughts on that?

zippers are pretty standard. I didn't notice a difference between the two, but then again I wasn't looking for a difference either. Which ever you prefer. If you haven't been satisfied with full zips in the past, I doubt that this will be any different.

Thank for the zipper input!

One more question... Did anyone try on any of the men's knickers? Curious if they run 1 or 2 sizes larger? I used to wear an XS in men's and S in women's but given this sizing and fabric, I'm definitely going M in women's. Any thoughts or insights into the knickers?

Quesiton on the Denail Vest - I think Raja mentioned it was more of a thermal vest, warmer not just a windshell. Does it have a solid black back or a fleece lining? The description states "ultra fleece back..." but would like a little more info if anyone has it.

Thanks :)

The wind-shell is ultra thin & light. Crumples up into a fist. The Denali is light fleece lined with ventilation on the sides (if I remember correctly). Great for cool days when you need more than arm warmers/windvest but a jacket is too much.

Hi! Quick question about minimums (and apologies if this was answered earlier in the thread & I missed the post) ... I've just ordered a snazzy WHITE 2012 jersey. If the minimum is NOT met for white, is it possible to switch to black? Don't want to miss out :) Thanks! Monica

Actually, the minimum for the white jerseys is just 15. The reason is says 50 on the website is that Voler very kindly agreed to give us the same pricing on the black and white jerseys. Since they determine cost based on number ordered, it was a was a nice offer.

On Friday, we'll know if there are any categories that aren't looking good. My understanding is that if a category doesn't run, you would be given an opportunity to order something else. I will double check tomorrow though and let you know!

Spoke with Voler about the men's knickers (helpful!):

* Sizing is true to size based off their sizing chart, given Forza compression fabric is not used.
* Artico is a comfy thermal fabric
* Triton is standard

Are there any larger bellas out there who tried on the new shorts material?  I've worn a size Large in Voler shorts for many seasons even though my weight has been up and down a bit.
I wear a size 14 jeans.  Lots of comments on here about going up 1/2 a size ... i'm worried that going from L to XL is going to be too much of a size jump.  Some mfg L -> XL is a HUGE difference.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

i don't have experience with the large shorts but i'll give you some general advice

if you are getting the standard (Triton) short, the sizing shouldn't be much different this year and you can probably get the same size

if you are getting the higher end (Forza) short, the sizing is about 1/2 size smaller due to the compression.  so it really depends on how the large fits now.  if it is pretty snug to begin with, you might need the bigger size.  if they are on the comfortably roomy side, maybe you'll be ok with this size.

you can also talk to voler directly and go over your measurements etc and see what they recommend....

good luck!

I just pushed the long sleeve order to 16 with a long-sleeve jersey and arm warmers. We're in!

Accessories: Need someone to order a pair of gloves and/or booties. PLEASE! Heck, I ordered 2 gloves & 2 sets of booties to push # to 14. <Bella has missed too many orders and needs accessorizing...>

that makes sense, I really couldn't imagine us choosing a full

white bottom in a skinsuit :) don't need one tho, although the screamin' fast part sounds good!

I may be interested.  How much does a long sleeve jersey cost?  I can't view it since the order is closed on the Voler site.

I'm going to call Voler first thing tomorrow morning and see what the status is on all the items. As soon as I know, I'll post it here!
