One of our original Bellas, Shelly Whisenhant, is a navy officer (currently teaching at Annapolis and the coach of the Navy cycling team) so its only fitting that we have had a few bellas since then in the military.
In addition to Nicole and the other women in the article, we also have new Bella, Beth Welliver, who is an officer in the air force and student at the Naval Postgraduate School.
I have never been ashore in Iraq. I was last stationed off the Northern Arabian Gulf in 2004, but have never been stationed ashore, and am not currently there. That is a very sensitive distinction, as I'm sure you can appreciate. There are thousands of Navy personnel currently serving ashore in Iraq and Afganistan, in very dangerous, important positions helping out the other services, but I have always served aboard a ship when deployed, and am currently serving in Washington, DC.
Also, I was actually training for a half-ironman, not a full ironman distance race.
Bummer there weren't more details on the other Bellas!

Funny story...the Beth Boyer mentioned in the article...that was me 5 years ago before I got married. Apparently when I replied to Alex's orginal call for info, my yahoo e-mail address is still under my maiden name. Even better, my aunt saw the story on Cycling News and I'm pretty sure she now thinks we're getting a divorce or something and I'm changing my name back. Too funny!
Great story on Nicole...Navy ladies have it rough out on the ships for months on end with all those guys. Nothing but respect for women who put up with those boys.
