My husband and I are going to Whistler in September to celebrate the end of my grad school career (WOOHOO!!) We were thrilled to find out the co-ed Dirt Series mountain bike clinic is happening the weekend we will be there (WOOHOO again!)
Anyway...we are looking for suggestions for places to ride, lodging, dining, how to avoid Olympic construction chaos, and any other good stuff. We ride both road and dirt but are planning to bring our mountain bikes. While he is willing to try anything, I am still in the beg/int level with xc mtb. As for pricing, we don't have a limitless credit card but we also aren't looking to share a bathroom in a hostel.
Any suggestions would be wonderful!

I went to whistler for a day trip when I was up in BC for superweek and there is basically one road in/out which is being worked on and there is no way around that. Expect long delay's when traveling. When we were on our way back to vancouver there was a rock slide due to construction over the highway and we ended up sitting there on the road for 3 hours not moving so they could clean it up.... this is not likely to happen all the time but just bring food/water etc. in case your travels take a while
The place is very resort-ish so there are tons of places to stay and I think it is all probably expensive. Everything in the village is basically brand new with lots of shops (generally higher end except for the gap etc.) and it is very cutsey and touristy. We were there in July and everyone was on the MTB.... we did not see one road bike out there.... I think the mtb is the big thing to do here and just about everyone gets a lift ticket for shuttle runs on the downhill ski runs. I am not sure about xc stuff but I am sure there is something....
Have a good trip!

There is a shuttle that runs from vancouver to whistler that you can pick up (it accomodates bikes too)
As for lodging, look at places like vrbo.com, craigslist and cyberrentals.com. You might be able to find a deal there.
The DH riding there is epic. If you can swing it, rent a DH bike for a day and do some DH runs. There are buttery groomers that you can hone your skills on and feel like a rockstar going downhill.
A clinic is a great way to go. The gals up there are AMAZING riders, really nice and will help you improve.
BRING A BIKE LOCK and NEVER let your bike out of your sight, especially in the village. Not even just to turn your back and pay for something. The unfortunate reality is that where there are expensive toys, there are stealthy thieves.
Have an awesome time! ...can i stow away in your suitcase?
